Bob Beatty, Principal

Public service is my passion. I have worked with nonprofits since 1996, since 1999 in the history/museum fields. It is the ideal environment for me to combine my enthusiasm for working for the greater good with my creativity, entrepreneurial spirit, and problem-solving abilities.

My career history began at the Orange County Regional History Center, which operated a museum, archive, and was home to an historical society. From 2007-2018 I served in leadership at the American Association for State and Local History as the Vice President for Programs, Chief Operating Officer, and lastly as Interim President & CEO. As the VP for Programs, I was allowed the opportunity to create and oversee collaborative programming with a national network of historic sites and museums. In this role, I became editor of History News magazine and Managing Editor of the AASLH Editorial Board for a book imprint with Rowman & Littlefield.

Through these opportunities and successes, I have gained new understanding of the issues facing cultural and history organizations––most particularly sustainability. As a facilitator of the AASLH Standards and Excellence Program, and as a peer reviewer for the American Alliance of Museums, I have demonstrated skill in helping organizations implement and adapt best museum practices. Additionally, I’ve literally made it my job to promote best practices nationwide, while facilitating professional development programs and workshops, as well as in my written contributions to professional publications.

My professional experience has connected me with a national network of history professionals who represent excellence in all museum fields––from interpretation to fundraising. When you work with the Lyndhurst Group, you will benefit from my personal expertise, along with the skills, knowledge, and experience of other high-caliber professionals, consultants, and advisers I have personally vetted over the years to specifically address your institutional needs.

Why the Lyndhurst Group?

My great-grandfather was Bob Beatty, Captain of the HMS Lyndhurst, a British merchant ship. My grandfather was born on the Lyndhurst in March 1900, in the Delaware Breakwater, and named Robert Lyndhurst Beatty. I was born on the first anniversary of my grandfather’s death, and given the name Robert Lyndhurst Beatty, II. This painting of the Lyndhurst has been in my family since 1897. It now hangs in my foyer.

The Lyndhurst’s legacy proved significant, instilling me with a fascination, passion, and love of the past. This story’s power compelled me to work in the history field.

strongly believe that history has the power to inspire––by harnessing and directing this power, the Lyndhurst Group helps clients engage and inspire their communities.
